Membership

Formed in 1976, the National Storytelling Network is the largest Storytelling membership organization dedicated to advancing all forms of storytelling within the community through promotion, advocacy, and education. Our members represent all the forms of storytelling from printed to oral to digital storytelling. By becoming a member you are connected with storytelling on the national level, networked with storytellers who share your interests across the world, and supported in many ways on your storytelling journey.

Individual Membership Levels:

Individual Membership – $75.00

STUDENT MEMBERSHIP CONDITIONS & BENEFITS

Student membership can be granted to someone who is in high school grades 9-12 or someone who is currently enrolled, full-time or part-time, in a degree-granting program. Excluded are persons who are enrolled in career-enhancing programs or just taking a course at a school. The person should be actively pursuing a post-secondary degree.

Student memberships will have all benefits of regular membership EXCEPT they will not be considered a voting member of the corporation.

Organizational Membership Levels:

Non-Profit Organizational Membership – $100.00
Open to nonprofit organizations interested in storytelling.

For-Profit Organizational Membership – $125.00
Open to for-profit organizations interested in storytelling.

ORGANIZATIONAL MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

  • Staff or members of the Organizational Member can receive 10% off an NSN Individual Membership for each individual who wants to become an individual member.
  • Organizational Members may register up to three (3) staff of the organization for the National Storytelling Conference at the individual member rate.
  • Organizational Members receive discounts for advertising on the NSN website.
  • Membership in NSN Special Interest Groups (SIG members pay additional dues to support SIG activities, such as workshops sessions, publications, mentoring programs, etc.)

FIND-A-STORYTELLER SPOTLIGHT DIRECTORY

List your skills for potential employers and producers through NSN’s online Find-A-Storyteller Directory prominently displayed on our website homepage which has thousands of unique visitors each year. The directory provides many opportunities to showcase your storytelling talent. You must be a current NSN member to participate in the Find-A-Storyteller Directory. An additional fee is required.

SPONSORED MEMBER PROGRAM/FISCAL SPONSORSHIP

The NSN Sponsored Member Program Fiscal Sponsorship enables NSN’s individual and non-501c3 organizational members to apply for funds under its non-profit umbrella and thus makes new sources of funding available to them. NSN fiscal sponsorship complies with IRS regulations for donations by foundations and corporations.

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS (SIGs)

A Special Interest Group (SIG) is a formal group created by the National Storytelling Network (NSN) members joining together within the structure of NSN for a common purpose, exploring their area of interest in storytelling. SIG members pay additional dues to support SIG activities, such as workshops sessions, publications, mentoring programs, etc. You must be a member of NSN to join a Special Interest Group. As an additional member benefit, individuals receive a SIG membership of their choice with the payment of annual dues of $75.

Environmental Storytelling Special Interest Group (ECO) – $25.00 per year

An informal network of storytellers, educators, park rangers and docents, and others who use storytelling in environmental education and advocacy. We share ideas on-line and occasionally meet up at regional retreats or during NSN conferences.

Producers and Organizers Special Interest Group (PRO) – $25.00 per year

Encourages cooperation, networking, and support among storytelling event organizers within NSN and fosters the professional growth of the individual members.

Storytelling in Organizations Special Interest Group (SIO) – $25.00 per year

Brings narrative insights onto the contemporary business scene by documenting and promoting the constructive role and widespread importance of storytelling in corporate, non-profit, small business, education, and other settings.

Youth, Educators and Storytellers Alliance Special Interest Group (YES) – $25.00 per year

Promotes youth storytelling and encourages educators to use storytelling as an educational tool.

DISCUSSION GROUPS

A Discussion Group, more informal than a SIG and charging no dues, assists NSN members in contacting other members who share a common storytelling interest. STORYTELL LISTSERV

Storytell, sponsored by the National Storytelling Network, has more than 900 subscribers worldwide for discussions about storytelling. All persons interested in storytelling are invited to participate in the Storytell Listserv.
