Denis, Michael, John, McCarthy, Gorman, Gesssing is a Colorado native with roots reaching back to Donegal Ireland. Hence the monikers - "The Celtic Cowboy," "The American-Irish Seanchai" and " The Ol'Storyteller."
Besides being a performance storyteller, Denis has worked as an actor, writer, television and film director.
He has a degree in film from The School of Visual Arts, New York City and did his graduate work in film/television at UCLA. He also holds a certificate in American Sign Language Interpretation from El Camino College in Torrance Ca.
Denis also has a background in human services, working for people with disabilities and survivors of traumatic brain injury, using story to learn and communicate. To learn about his workshop, visit olstoryteller.com.
He's also been a Master of Ceremonies at city events and festivals. Besides the US, he's spun yarns in Australia, Ireland and England... wherever two or more congregate and communicate.


Denis has told stories from the classroom to the boardroom. libraries, conferences, festivals,churches and private parties.
"The American-Irish Seanachi" tells tales from Ireland. "The Ol Storyteller", Tall Tales, Westerns, Folk. "Everyman", stories from "The Chit-Chat Cafe."
He offers workshops for kids and teachers incorporating the use of "The Rickity-Tickity-Man", The Talking Stick", American Sign Language and the occasional guitar.

Guilds and Professional Organizations include NSN, Professional Storyteller, Rocky Mt. Storyteller's Guild.
Asked how long he'd been telling stories, he said: "All my life. At least since I told my 2nd, grade teacher a big windy about the missing pages of my arithmetic book. But I've only been getting paid for it for the last dozen years or more."
