Michele Carlo has told stories across the U.S., including the MOTH's GrandSlams and Mainstage shows in NYC, on NPR and on PBS: WNET in NYC; WGBH with MassMouth (MA). She is the author of "Fish Out Of Agua: My life on neither side of the (subway) tracks," a recounting of growing up as a redheaded Puerto Rican in an Italian/Irish neighborhood in 1970s NYC.

“Fish Out of Agua with Michele Carlo” is also a radio show currently airing “the stories behind the stories” of many storytellers and other creative folk every Tuesday on Radio Free Brooklyn. Past episodes are available on PodOmatic and iTunes.

True life stories about being a "fish out of water." My experiences growing up as a redheaded Puerto Rican in an Italian/Irish neighborhood in 1970s NYC and my journey to becoming an artist mirrors the universality in all our experiences through themes of race, class, culture, gentrification, intermarriage, body image, aging, relationships and the importance of family.
