Dr. Mike Lockett is known as The Normal Storyeller. He lives in Normal, Illinois, and thinks it ought to be normal for everyone to love stories. His stories are anything but normal. Mike is known for his use of vocal sound effects and dialects in his telling of international folktales and for his energetic audience participation programs.

Lockett's programs are clean and well received by family audiences. He has given nearly 3000 programs for schools, libraries, festivals, churches and organizations across the USA and as far away as Taiwan.

Mike has produced 4 award winning audio CDs, a DVD, and has authored seven books (6 for children). He has entertained at the International Storytelling Festival in Asia, International Reading Association Conferences, Midwest Storytelling Festival, Northlands, LANES, Three Apples, Rock Island Storytelling Festival, and is a frequent keynote speaker for education conferences, young author programs and for parent programs.


Lockett is the winner of eight national awards for his auditory CDs. "Tales from the Hills" is a collection of Appalachian tales, told in southern dialect and accompanied by Lockett on the dulcimer and his son on the guitar. The album received the 2007 Seal of Excellence.

"Tales from Around the World" includes ten international folktales all told in dialect by Lockett and has folk music from the different countries. The album won the 2007 Gold Seal of Excellence, and a 2007 Iparenting Media Award.

"Tales for the Young at Heart" is a triple award winner - 2007 Preferred Choice Award (Creative Child Magazine), 2007 Iparenting Media Award and 2008 NAPPA Honors award. It includes favorite folktales and songs for young listeners.

"Tales and Fables: East Meets West" won the 2008 CD of the Year from Creative Child Magazine.

Tales of Delight, a DVD with 12 tales won the 2009 DVD of the Year Award.
