2. Project narrative

Describe your proposed project in no more than 750 words. In what ways, and to whom, will the project be important? How will it succeed? In writing the narrative, please keep in mind the criteria the Grants Committee will be considering.
3. Huebner Award (answer if applicable)
If the telling of traditional tales or historical stories is central to your proposal, your application is eligible for consideration for the $500 Jack and Carole Ann Huebner Award. If you would like your proposal to be considered for the Huebner Award, please tell us in your application why traditional tales or historical stories are important in your project.

4. Timetable

Exactly what do you propose to do and when? Very briefly, describe the stages of the project in chronological order. Be sure to indicate the starting and ending dates for your project, which must fall between July 1, 2008 and December 1, 2009.

5. Project personnel

  • Project Director/Contact Person (required for all applications):
In no more than 100 words, explain how the project director is particularly qualified to conduct this project. Attach a resume (2 pages maximum).
  • Collaborators (if applicable):
For each person collaborating in the proposal, provide the following information: name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, and duration of membership in NSN; also a brief statement of what the person's role in the project will be, and what skills and experience he or she will contribute to the enterprise. If collaborators will be sharing project responsibilities equally with the named Project Director/Contact Person, attach a 2-page resume for each.
  • NSN affiliate organization (if applicable):
Pprovide the name and contact information for the organization, the duration of its membership in NSN, the names and addresses of members who will be active in the project, and a description of the mission of the organization and the resources it will bring to the proposed project.
  • Community groups/organizations (for Community Grant Proposals):
Provide the name and contact information for the group or organization with which the applicant will be working on the project. Explain the mission of the group, its history and activities relevant to this project and the resources it will provide for the project.
Attach to your proposal a letter from an appropriate member of the community group, expressing support of the project and describing how the group will participate in it.

6. Project Budget (See Budget Form)

7. Budget Narrative

Explain how you arrived at the estimates of your expenses in each category, and (if it is not obvious) how the items for which you are requesting funding are relevant to your project. In all cases, grant funds must be applied to expenses directly connected with the project. NSN grants will not fund food or refreshments. If you request funding for salaries, honoraria, operating expenses, or the purchase of equipment, you must justify these requests in detail, demonstrating why they are essential to the project.
What support, if any, will you be receiving (or at least requesting) from other sources beyond NSN? If you will use the NSN grant all or partly as matching funds to attract other gifts, explain this in your narrative.

8. Reference Letters

Provide names, addresses, e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers of the two people who are sending letters of reference for your project. These individuals should be knowledgeable about your work and the project, but should not be involved in the project either as producers or as financial beneficiaries.
