Have you ever hear a story that changed your life, inspired you, or simply gave you a good laugh? Then you undoubtedly understand the power of a good story. From July 11-15, 2007 , St. Louis will host the National Storytelling Conference. This five-day event is open to the public. During the conference people from many walks of life will come together to listen and learn more about the story-making process and how it influences people’s lives. Professional storytellers will model the best in oral storytelling, discuss their craft, and help others grow in this field.

Telling a good story is important in reporting the news, in politics, in the healing arts, in science, in the creative arts, in teaching on all levels, and in families. Nowadays any arts event such as this conference needs underwriting to succeed. We need such support. There are many ways that we can put your financial gift to good use. Support one of our workshops to help teachers such as “Getting stories into science: Adapting and creating environmental stories.”  Contribute to a workshop that promotes a greater understanding between generations as first developed in Northern Ireland . Workshop offerings are open to everyone and presenters come from many professions. Help the panel on disabilities educate their listeners.

There are several options to become a donor:

Adopt-a-storyteller (underwrite a master class, a workshop, or performance)

Sponsor an event (opening reception and keynote, awards reception)

Support Legacy Project (local teachers learn how to use storytelling in the curriculum)

The conference is jointly sponsored by several nonprofit, 501(c)3, organizations. We need and appreciate your support. Your gift is tax-deductible. Please be as generous as you can. Please refer to the back of this sheet for more information on benefit levels and recognition for donors.

Please support the power of storytelling to make a difference in today’s world, in all our lives, in St. Louis and beyond. You can find more information about the conference on the website of the National Storytelling Network. www.storynet.org
